Gallagher genealogy

John Gallagher was born in Ireland.
He married Mary (last name unknown).
They immigrated to America sometime before 1853.
They may have lived in Cleveland, Ohio

John and Mary had 1 child that I know of, but there could be more that I am unaware of.

Lawrence Charles Gallagher (1853-1912) married Allie Mae Frambees

There are a ton of John and Mary Gallagher's in various records, therefore it has made it very difficult to find which part of Ireland they were from.

Their son Lawrence is also a bit of a mystery.  In the 1870 census he states that he was born in New York.  In the 1900 census he states that he was born in Canada.  His children claim that he was born in Cleveland, Ohio.  He does not appear in any census records with his parents.

The closest I could find was a John Gallagher who was married to Bridget by 1850 and by 1870 was married to Mary.  I cannot determine if this is Lawrence's parents since he is not mentioned in any of those records.

My Sheehan family History

My Sheehan ancestors are from Kildysart (or Killadysert), County Clare, Ireland.

My Sheehan line starts with Patrick Sheehan.  He married Nancy (also seen as Nann or Anna) Connors.  She was the daughter of Mr. Connors and Miss Quinlivan (or Quinlirian).

Patrick may have been known as John "Paddy" Sheehan, but I have only found him named as Patrick.  He appears in Griffith's Valuation for 1856 in Killadysert, County Clare.

Patrick and Nancy had 9 children...
Mary Sheehan (1850-1925) came to America about 1870 and married William McColgan
Bridget Sheehan (1862-1951) came to America about 1883 and married John Cummings
Ellen T Sheehan (1864-?) came to America about 1883 and married Maurice/Morris White
Nora Sheehan (1864-1918) came to America about 1873 and married Thomas Hogan
Michael Sheehan (1866-1903) married Mary Ann Gavin
Margaret Sheehan (1868-?) unknown if ever married
Thomas Patrick Sheehan (1866-1947) came to America about 1887 and married Julia Devaney
Katherine "Kate" Sheehan (1876-?) came to America about 1890 and married Martin Gavin
Ann Sheehan (1877-?) came to America about 1903 and married Thomas Cummings

Michael and Margaret are the only two children that remained in Ireland.  One of Michael's grandchildren, Barney McCloskey, owned a pub in Dublin.

As for the children that immigrated, they all lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.  Most of them are buried at Holy Cross (a Catholic Cemetery) in Philadelphia.

My Devaney family history

My Devaney family is from Kilconduff, County Mayo, Ireland.

My line begins with Martin Devaney who was born about 1832.  He married a cousin, Hanora (also spelled Honor or Nora) Devaney on February 12, 1850.

Martin and Hanora had 8 children that I know of...
Honor Devaney (1854-?)
Patricia "Atty" Devaney (1856-?)
Sabina Devaney (1862-1932) came to America about 1882 and married James Henry
Edward Devaney (1864-1918) came to America about 1885 and never married
Martin Devaney (1869-?)
Julia Agnes Devaney (1871-1912) came to America about 1885 and married Thomas Sheehan
Eleanor "Ellen" Devaney (1872-1906) came to America before 1902 and  married John Reynolds

Note:  The birthdates for the children that immigrated are from their American death certificates.  I have found that in the 1800's, the Irish did not keep track of birthdates.  Therefore, when they came to America and were asked their date of birth, they usually just guessed a round-about age and made up a month and date that they would remember (usually a holiday or other significant date).  For example: my 2nd great grandfather, Thomas Sheehan, gave his birthdate as January 1st , 1866 on his naturalization records.

As far as I know, Honor, Patricia, and Martin remained in Ireland.  The other children all immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Hanora died on October 16, 1888 in Culmore, County Mayo.  Martin died on March 26, 1900 in Culmore, County Mayo.

As for the children that immigrated to America...they are all buried at Holy Cross (a Catholic cemetery) in Philadelphia.
